NAIC First National Report Finds Homeowners Insurance Nonrenewals Rose Up to 216 Percent Since 2018
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners released its first comprehensive national homeowners insurance analysis, covering 103 million policies from 2018 through 2024. Inflation-adjusted premiums rose between 18 and 43 percent depending on region, with the Western Zone seeing the steepest increase, while company-initiated nonrenewal rates climbed between 96 and 216 percent across all four NAIC zones. The Southeast recorded both the highest average premium at $1,818 per policy and the highest nonpayment cancellation rate at 65.3 per 1,000 policies, indicating compounding affordability pressure in that region.
