IAB Releases Voluntary Measurement Guidelines for Brand Visibility in AI Platforms
The Interactive Advertising Bureau published a non-enforceable framework on August 3, 2026, defining shared vocabulary, quality tiers, and disclosure requirements for measuring how brands and publishers appear in AI-generated responses. The framework organizes metrics across four dimensions — Presence, Prominence, Portrayal, and Persuasion — and distinguishes between directional measurement for trend monitoring and decision-grade measurement required for budget allocation. Several areas remain unresolved, including paid placement, downstream attribution, multimodal visibility, and post-citation click-through data, which depends on platform-level access that not all AI platforms currently provide.
