The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.69% in the week ending August 6, 2026, marking a sixth straight weekly rise and a 0.26-percentage-point climb since July 2. On a $450,000 loan, that six-week run adds roughly $52 to the monthly principal-and-interest payment compared to the July 2 rate. Freddie Mac's chief economist noted that listing prices are modestly below year-ago levels and for-sale inventory has improved, offering some offset to the rate pressure on affordability.
