China Q2 2026 GDP Grows 4.3%, Slowest Since 2022, as Investment Falls Record 5.7%
China's National Bureau of Statistics reported Q2 2026 GDP growth of 4.3% year-on-year, the weakest quarterly figure since Q4 2022 and the first reading below the government's official 4.5–5.0% target band. The primary drag was a record first-half contraction in fixed-asset investment of 5.7%, led by an 18% decline in real estate investment, while a one-month rebound in June retail sales left the three-month consumption average near zero. Both the IMF and World Bank project full-year 2026 growth below the target band's lower bound, and the late-July Politburo meeting is now the key event for any policy response.
