Brookhaven National Laboratory has published peer-reviewed results from a new four-mode X-ray computed tomography station at its NSLS-II facility, demonstrating simultaneous capture of morphological, elemental, structural, and atomic data on a custom wire-and-powder sample in approximately six hours. The six-hour figure applies to that specific demonstration sample and does not represent a validated workflow for actual nuclear fuel or reactor materials, which have not yet been tested at the station. Planned upgrades funded by the DOE aim to reduce data collection time to under 30 minutes, though that target has not yet been achieved.
