China August Economic Data Due September 15 With July Momentum Already Weakened
China's National Bureau of Statistics will publish August industrial production, retail sales, fixed-asset investment, and unemployment figures on September 15, 2026, against a July baseline where all four indicators underperformed forecasts. Industrial output grew 4.5% year on year in July against a 4.8% poll estimate, retail sales rose just 0.6% against a 1.5% forecast, fixed-asset investment fell 6.7% year to date, and the surveyed urban unemployment rate ticked up to 5.2%. The August release carries added weight because no firm consensus forecasts exist for the indicators and the results will be the clearest signal yet of whether Beijing's 4.5% to 5% GDP target remains on track.
