30-Year Mortgage Rates Reached Up to 6.89% on September 1 Amid Rising Treasury Yields
Two private daily indexes placed the 30-year fixed mortgage rate between 6.76% and 6.89% on September 1, above Freddie Mac's most recent weekly average of 6.66%, as the 10-year Treasury yield climbed to roughly 4.79% and WTI crude oil settled 5.2% higher at $90.22 following renewed Middle East tensions. The three rate figures come from different methodologies and are not directly comparable, a distinction that matters when estimating actual borrower costs. For a $400,000 loan balance, the gap between the June 17 daily reading of 6.53% and the September 1 Bankrate figure of 6.76% translates to an additional $60.88 per month in principal and interest.
