MBA Mortgage Applications Fell 2.2 Percent as Rates Climbed to 6.58 Percent
The MBA Weekly Applications Survey for the week ending July 3, 2026 recorded a 2.2 percent seasonally adjusted drop in the Market Composite Index, with the Refinance Index down 4 percent and the refinance share slipping to 40.6 percent of total applications. Rates for the following survey week rose further, with Freddie Mac reporting the 30-year fixed at 6.49 percent and daily averages from Mortgage News Daily exceeding 6.70 percent, the highest since late July 2025. The July 15 release covering the week ending July 10 will be the last major housing-demand data point before the Federal Reserve's July 28–29 FOMC meeting.
