August CPI Releases at 8:30 AM With July Headline Inflation at 3.4 Percent
The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases August 2026 CPI data this morning, the last inflation reading before the Federal Reserve's September 15-16 rate decision. July's headline CPI stood at 3.4% annually and core at 2.5%, both above the Fed's 2% target, while forecasters expect a 0.4% monthly headline increase for August. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said on August 28 that inflation remained too high and that a majority of colleagues favored waiting for new data before acting.
